Water

The Ipswich Water Department was created in 1894. The original water system was limited to the downtown area and was established primarily for fire protection. The system has expanded significantly since its inception.  It consists of two divisions, Treatment and Distribution, which provides drinking water and fire protection to approximately 98% of the population.

The Water Department is available 24/7 to serve our customers.

If you have an emergency outside of our normal business hours, please call 978-356-6635 to reach our after-hours answering service.  On-call staff can talk through your issue and respond in person, if necessary.  Please note – if the situation is not an emergency and an in-person response could wait until normal business hours, you may be charged $250 for staff to respond.
