The Ipswich Utilities Department provides Electric, Water and Wastewater services to the residents of the Town of Ipswich. You can register for or cancel our services at existing homes by following the links below.

Moving in or out of a rental property

Contact the Utilities Office at 978-356-6635 

Please have the following information available:

  • Address of service location.
  • Move In/Out date
  • Name of all lessees.
  • List of any prior addresses in Ipswich that you may have had in your name previously.

Additionally, service for rental properties require proof of identification and may require an electric deposit. You may be asked to appear in person or offer some  proof of identification over the phone. Proof of identification must be completed by verifying each of the following, for each person on the lease:

  1. Photo ID (Drivers License, State Issued ID or Passport)
  2. Phone number
  3. Social Security Number

*While we are unable to transfer water and wastewater services to tenants, we can mail you a copy of the bill if your lease specifies that you are responsible for payment.

Moving out due to property sale? 

If you are the seller or the seller's agent, please contact the Utilities Office at 978-356-6635 to set up final water and electric readings.

Please have the following information available:

  • Closing date.
  • Full legal name for purchaser.
  • Updated mailing address for seller.
  • Email address to send final bills once they are prepared.

*For properties with town sewer service, a sewer connection inspection is required.                                       

  • Complete sewer inspection application form at 272 High Street, or complete the form, and mail it in with the inspection fee.
  • $40 inspection fee is due upon receipt of application.
  • Once the department has received your application and payment, call the sewer department to schedule your inspection at 978-356-6642.
